James Borthwick's (deceased) mantra was "I can make everything but music."

Jim learned to sew when he was a kid.

Sometimes his medium was colorful recycled scrap fabric from a nearby airplane factory and this then became the raw material for many of his yard art creations.

He said, "It takes a pretty strong fabric, metal base supports and poles to hold up in the strong Kansas wind."

Jim was the ultimate recycler, driving the streets of his western Kansas hometown, in search of cast-offs of local residents, sitting idle on the curb waiting for him to reclaim and fashion them into art.
